What goes on in a Honey Factory?
Have you ever wondered how honeybees make honey? Why they do it? How much honey they make? A visit to the full attraction includes a guided tour of our Honey Factory where you will find out these answers and more! It is a working Honey Factory for all the hives that our beekeeping team look after and as you walk in you will be greeted by a delicious honey aroma – especially if it is harvest time! You’ll discover what is involved in extracting honey from the hives and how we bottle it in jars ready for sale. With viewing windows into the production areas and informative displays, you can take your time to learn more about other products of the hive too and find out why our ‘busy bees’ are so busy!
Honey Tasting
The Honey Factory Tour ends with a honey tasting session where you can sample some of our delicious honeys! Find out why some honey is runny and some are not, how long honey lasts, what honey can be used for and a bit about the interesting history of humans and honey. We have several different varieties of honeys and our firm favourites, which can be sampled at our honey tasting session, are our award-winning Devon Summer, Rapeseed, Exmoor Heather and Scottish Heather honeys. Our Education Team will introduce each one and give you the chance to sample them to discover how different each one tastes depending on the flower used to make it. It really is possible to taste the countryside! What will your favourite bee?
*Please note: The honeys we have in stock depend on the weather and conditions we have been experiencing, so the selection available for tasting and purchasing may vary.
